Budget boost!

Infrastructure has received a booster shot of Rs 70,000 crore and another Rs 24,000 crore of increased outlays on roads and railways. This would take the existing spend on infrastructure for 2015-16 from Rs 2,10,000 to Rs 3,04,000 crore plus the funds created as an outcome of the seed money invested in National Investment & Infrastructure Fund which in turn will find its way into infrastructure funding companies like IRFC & NHB where they will evolve with a factor of ten.

Coal Ministry to review surplus coal usage

To determine mandatory rules for the use of surplus coal from captive mines, the Union Coal Ministry has started fresh round of discussions with other involved ministries including Power and Steel. The matter has been kept in abeyance for the last two years. As per the Coal Mines (Nationalisation) Act 1973 which oversees captive mining, all coal mined from the block must be used entirely for the respective end-use project.

Govt allocates mining leases via auction: Minister

The Union government notified the auction of mining leases on February 2 in 2012 under the amended provisions of Section 11 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 (67 of 1957) (MMDR Act).
